ABOUT KYLE TATE
Hello! Thanks for stopping by and
learning about the "Tate for State" campaign. I was born in Lexington,
Kentucky to a father who was coaching football at UK. I was raised in
Chesterfield and the first class to go through Highcroft Ridge Elementary
School. Yes, I can still sing "Up, Up, with Highcroft". I continued
through Parkway all the way to West High School. I participated in
everything from choir, debate, student council, German, Rugby, State
Vice-President of DECA, FBLA, and, naturally, football. I earned All-Metro
honors in football and attended the University of Illinois where I had the
opportunity to play Strong Safety for the Fighting Ilini. I graduated with
a major in History and a minor in Speech Communications. The lessons
learned from a great combination of academics and athletics have prepared
me for this exciting moment to be your next State Representative. We live in
an age when, too often, rules are scorned; values are turned upside down;
principles are replaced by expediency; and character has been sacrificed
for popularity.
- Humility:
perseverance through error
- Truth:
Respect, Relationships, and Unity are built on truth
- Trust:
to succeed we need a fixed point of reference
- Values:
what we treasure most, what we will not sacrifice,
what we dedicate the mission of our life achieving.
- Vision:
not sight, is what makes people truly see. The deaf
and blind lecturer Helen Keller once was asked, "Is there
anything worse than not having your sight?" She
responded earnestly, "Oh yes, it would be much worse to
have your sight, but not to have vision."
- Faith:
I know that this is what will help our culture
recover its vision of what is important and what is worth
defending--family, marriage, responsibility, trust, and
truth.
I spent two years after college working for Primary Physiciancare, Inc. one of the
largest providers of health insurance administration in the South working in marketing
and provider relations. On a July night in 1997, I dove into a pool that resulted in
a disability that to most would have stopped them in their tracks. The lessons above
allowed me to thrive as a speaker for businesses, churches, schools, and the Keynote
Speaker for the Special Olympics.
I returned to Chesterfield where I attended Saint Louis University School of Law,
focusing on health care law and being the Lead Editor for the Journal of Health Law.
After volunteering my time pro bono for the less fortunate I became the first Staff
Attorney for Paraquad emphasizing looking at issues like Medicare, Medicaid, MC +,
and Social Security. I most recently worked as the Legislative Assistant/Policy
Advisor to Representative Charles Portwood (R-Manchester/Ballwin). I
gained invaluable experience observing first-hand how difficult the process
of creating a "law" can be. The issues and ideas I have outlined need someone
with the legal and legislative fortitude to step in on day one and fight to
get passed.
The rest of my family and community have shaped my values. I was drawn to
politics at an early age as I learned from my cousin, Mike Tate, Illinois State
Representative 1980-1990 the difference one person can make.
Dick Tate - father - After coaching at Wake Forest, Kentucky, and SIUC, he
has worked for Levi's, Osh Kosh, the RCGA, and 99.1. His support and
efforts to St. Louis are immeasurable.
Diana Tate - Always putting her children first, she has demonstrated the
spirit of hard work and volunteerism. She taught Cotillion lessons for 14
years teaching the values of etiquette and manners. As a "Pillar of Parkway"
award winner she has spent the last 12 years working on creating safe, and
drug free schools.
Kama Tate Gregory - My older sister has been an inspiration as a leader
in non-profits. The Hope Clinic for Women in Nashville, TN, a battered
and abused women shelter in Columbus, GA, and now is the President of
Hope Imaging Clinic. Her husband, Matt, is an active Army Captain having
answered the call of his country twice in Iraq.
Kellyn Tate - My younger sister after a standout career at Parkway West,
attended the University of Michigan earning All-Big Ten honors and Olympic
recognition in softball. She has continued to use her talents mentoring
student-athletes as a Softball Coach at Penn State, Texas Tech, and
currently Miami University (Ohio).
